Who am I, and why?
Well, the front page probably told you, I'm Scott Hockley, and I'm a miniature collector and painter, from Colchester in the UK.
My wife would probably prefer it if I were more of a painter and vendor of miniatures, but more on that another time ^_^
I've been in and out of the model making and painting hobby since the mid-80s, but returned fully to the scene around 2007. Since then I've gone on to pick up a nice collection of awards from various real world and on-line competitions. These include trophies from Salute, Wamp, Euro Militaire and a Golden Demon trophy too.
Over the years I've painted a right mixture of minis, starting mostly with Games Workshop's Warhammer 40000 models, but moving on to a much more varied diet of brands these days. Commonly there is a lot of flesh on show with my models, most of which is tastefully done, but with my current penchant for all things Kingdom Death, that might not be the case for long!
For the last couple of years I've been involved in the running of a UK based miniature painting and sculpting community forum, Platoon Britannica, while also being active in several popular forums, such as Wamp, Studio McVey and FoD.
Now, the why part...
The Black Hand part relates to the fact that I'm a fussy so-and-so that doesn't like getting paint on his hands, which is a bit of an occupational hazard when handling and painting minis. My solution? I wear a latex glove while painting, and it just so happens that I like using the black ones best (plus all those super cool tattooists wear black gloves! lol).
Why wait all this time to start a blog?
Well, I guess I've waited until my head and shelf of painted minis were full of enough stuff to actually (hopefully) be of some interest to other hobbyists. :)
I want to use this blog to share some info on the "how" part of what I do, plus share some of what motivates me to paint what I do. Oh, and occasionally to peddle my wares too! ^_^
I am usually available for commission painting, so please don't be afraid to ask.
I'm sure that I'll remember other things that I should add to this section soon, but for now, thanks for visiting, hopefully I'll have plenty to share soon.
